Gregory James

Greg arrived at 2:07 p.m. on February 9. He weighed 6 lbs, 15 oz and was 19 1/4" long. Labor and delivery were quick (six hours from when they started the Pitocin to delivery) and largely uneventful. We had a little scare with jaundice and weight loss (he lost 12 oz in three days), but a weekend of nursing/pumping/supplementing with pumped milk helped him gain some of that weight back. At his two week checkup, Greg weighed 6 lbs, 12 oz, so he had gained back most of what he lost.

Susanna is doing well with being a big sister. She has her jealous moments, but largely seems to love Greg and shows concern for him. She likes to go into his room and visit him.

James took three weeks off (his company gives two weeks paternity leave, and he took a week of vacation), which was a huge blessing. He went back to work yesterday, and I'm adjusting to being alone with them during the day.

Breastfeeding is going much better this time than with Susanna, largely thanks to the incredible lactation consultants at our local hospital. I'm using a nipple shield and still pumping 3-4 times a day, but at least he's nursing most of the time. I rented a breast pump for the first month, to make sure that my milk supply would be well-established. It is...my freezer is rapidly filling up!
